Looking for a lawyer with 10+ years of experience (predominantly in IT) for the Senior Counsel, India opening with a leading Software Company in Hyderabad.
Job Overview
This position of Senior Counsel, India is responsible for providing legal advice to the company in relation to its sales operations in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi as well as its sizeable development presence in Hyderabad (approximately 1400 people). The Senior Counsel, India works predominantly on an IT transactional workload in India, while assisting with overflow IT transactions in South Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand.
First and foremost Senior Counsel, India is an accomplished drafter and negotiator of IT contracts. Senior Counsel India has a good working knowledge of laws and processes in areas including HR and employee benefits. Senior Counsel, India advises on processes in areas as diverse as compliance and business ethics, dispute resolution and IP. There is scope for Senior Counsel, India to work on company secretarial resolutions and related matters in India and across Asia Pacific.
Senior Counsel, India is a significant contributor to the Worldwide Legal Department’s Asia Pacific and Japan team. Senior Counsel, India will be the company’s sole lawyer in India. He or she will report to the Managing Senior Counsel based in Singapore.
The role requires business judgment and the ability to work closely with the business while operating remotely to other lawyers in Asia, Pacific and Japan.
Geography: The role is based in Hyderabad.
Experience: 10-12 years experience predominantly in IT. This will have been obtained in private practice or in-house. US MNC experience will be highly regarded.
Key Responsibilities
– Provide legal advice to senior management on software licensing related issues, HR and employee benefits, IP, compliance and business ethics.
– Major team player in frontline negotiations relating to software licenses and related agreements.
– Develop business positions and alternatives consistent with company policies and principles for resolution of complex software licensing issues.
– Analyze complex data and issues; provide prompt consistent and accurate contracts drafts, position analysis, assessment of risk and work proactively with internal customers through to contract execution.
– Analyze and challenge current working methods to continuously improve processes and results.
– Consistently meet demanding deadlines through personal commitment and be self motivated with exceptional project management skills.
– Utilize group dynamics to stimulate team participation effectively.
– Litigation experience desirable but not mandatory.

Specific Skills and Certifications
– Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently
– Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively Strong writing, public speaking and presentation skills.
– Ability to work independently with little or no supervision or guidance.
– Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
– Fluent in spoken and written English. Hindi (desirable but not mandatory)
