Information Specialist – Resources and Access

Following a restructuring process which has resulted in the need to grow their team, an Information Specialist with considerable expertise in Resources and Access is required by a prestigious international law firm with a European HQ in London, and multiple world-wide offices. This role is a new position in the firm and holds responsibility for the management of electronic and hard copy information resources for both the European and APAC operations of the firm. It is a standalone role, but sits within a close-knit London based KM/IM team.

The principal objectives of this Resources Specialist role include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify, evaluate and make recommendations for the procurement of hardcopy and electronic resources used by information teams in Europe and Asia
  • To review, administer and manage existing hardcopy and electronic resources, including the review of usage and engagement within the firm
  • Drive and implement solutions to track, monitor and evaluate usage
  • Working with vendors and procurement to negotiate and renew subscriptions
  • Horizon scanning and working with competitor intelligence to seek out new and innovative resources solutions
  • To drive engagement within the firm for new and existing resources and manage an effective communications strategy around this
  • Operate as a subject matter expert around issues relating to technology and licensing agreements

To be a suitable candidate for this Resources Specialist role, the following is required:

  • Experience gained within either a similar Resource Specialist role or experience in resource management gained as part of a broader role in a legal information function
  • An in-depth knowledge of the current landscape for hardcopy and electronic resources in a legal setting
  • Expertise in the functions of procurement, negotiation and licensing of information resources
  • Experience co-ordinating the implementation of new resource technologies including training and communications strategy
  • Ideally, previous experience in a legal setting, but candidates from other professional services settings will also be considered
  • An expert in stakeholder management and managing supplier relationships
  • A track record of developing solutions or processes to monitor and report on engagement and usage
  • Ideally, a related qualification such as MLIS
