BMW Group Indonesia has taken legal action against Chinese automaker BYD, for unauthorized use of the “M6” trademark, raising concerns over brand confusion in Indonesia.
On Mar. 4, Jodie O’tania, director of communications at BMW Group Indonesia, confirmed that the “M6” trademark is officially registered with the directorate general of intellectual property under Indonesia’s ministry of law and human rights.
BMW argues that the “M6” name is globally recognized for high performance and exclusivity in its M lineup.
The company claims BYD’s use of the name could mislead consumers about product authenticity and quality.
