The Lawyers for Democracy, a pro-left body of lawyers , have strongly protested the attack on advocate Jyotishman Das by BJP miscreants in Gorkha Basti area yesterday. Sources in the lawyers outfit said that advocate Jyotishman Das had filed a FIR with specific names of BJP miscreants operating in the Booth No-37 area of Barjala assembly constituency. As he was returning from the police station with his lawyers dress on , he was attacked and injured by a gang of BJP miscreants who had come to know of the FIR.
Advocate Manish Bhattacharjee, secretary of the Lawyers for Democracy , described the incident as an ‘assault on the profession of lawyers’ besides condemning the brazen attack . He demanded immediate police action against the culprits. Senior advocate Purushottam Roybarman who is also the president of the high court bar association condemned the attack and called for drastic police action against the culprits. He also called upon all the lawyers and intelligentsia to rise in protest against the assault on advocate Jyotishman Das.
