India: Law Minister Kiren Rijiju Lauds Kerala High Court’s Initiative Of Publishing Its Judgments In Malayalam

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has appreciated the initiative of the Kerala High Court of publishing its judgments in the Malayalam language.

The Minister tweeted, “#Kerala’s High Court sets an inspiring example by publishing judgments in #Malayalam. This empowers citizens, particularly at grassroots level, by making #Judgments more accessible in their language. Let’s celebrate this historic step towards language empowerment!”

The Kerala High Court has started publishing the judgments being translated into Malayalam on a test basis. The two judgments of the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice S. Manikumar and Justice Shaji P. Chaly are available in Malayalam language on the official website of the High Court.

Earlier in the month of January, Chief Justice of India Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud had said that the judgments of the Supreme Court would be translated into regional languages. The CJI noted that the English language in its “legal avatar” was not comprehensible to 99.9% of the citizens of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently termed Chief Justice D. Y. Chandrachud’s announcement of the initiative to make the judgments of the Supreme Court available in regional languages, “laudatory”.

The Prime Minister had tweeted a video of the speech of the Chief Justice where he said, “The next step of our mission is to provide translated copies of the judgments of the Supreme Court in every Indian language”.
