i law subs to rise by 100% in 2011 ?

A UK law librarian has posted the following comments to UK Law Lis.. if this is a price rise across the board to all? i law clients informa won’t be making themselves very popular with firms

?

The librarian writes…

I am very concerned about the way Informa is going, its poor customer service and the escalation in its prices. We have been told by our Informa Key Account Rep that the price for our i-law subscription will rise by 100% next year. This is after a large rise for the last two years plus a reduction in our access and also a reduction in features like alerting services.

For a small firm like ours this will mean we are thinking very seriously about whether we can afford to renew our subscription to Informa services. I understand that there are a number of small firms like ours in a similar position.

If a number of firms do not renew in this relatively small information sector, Maritime Law and Insurance, I expect the price will go up even more for those who decide they want to continue with the service.

Am I the only person concerned with the fact that Informa are pricing their service out of the market and forcing us to return from electronic to paper based information sources?

Another librarian writes in response

We don?t subscribe to i-law but have a subscription to 3 out of the 5 intellectual property journals produced by Informa. They have just replaced all 5 IP journals with one IP Magazine (!) which has resulted in an inferior product with less coverage on the separate IP areas. We were only notified of this change one month before and too late to cancel any renewed subscriptions – we have stopped all but one subscription and tagged the remaining months onto the active subscription (it was of no benefit for us to receive 3 copies of the same thing). Although the price increase for this new publication will be minimal, we do feel we are getting less value for money. I agree about the customer service

Looks like friends will be few and far between in 2011
