A Scandinavian law firm,Roschier Advokatbyra AB and a financial institution filed a lawsuit against rapper JAY-Z on Thursday, accusing him of owing them $598,383 for their work in his 2015 purchase of a piece of the digital music service Tidal.

The lawsuit — filed in Manhattan Federal Court — names S. Carter Enterprises as the defendant. The firm is solely owned by JAY-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter.
The suit came the same day the hip hop star was ordered to appear in court to show why he shouldn’t have to testify to the SEC about his relationship to apparel company Iconix Brand Group.
The regulatory agency is investigating whether Iconix violated federal securities laws.
The Tidal deal made JAY-Z a major player in the competitive world of streaming music sites. Tidal also counts his wife Beyonce, Rihanna and Madonna as co-owners. It has 3 million subscribers.
“JAY-Z and Tidal’s co-owners have been described as ‘the 1% of pop music artists who ‘do not answer to corporations,'” the lawsuit says. “Alas, that approach apparently extends to Carter Enterprises’ bills for the services that facilitated JAY-Z’s ownership of Tidal.”
A representative for JAY-Z did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
