Three cheers for the Houston County Bar Association……
HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — School lunch debt in Houston County is no more after the county Bar Association made a huge donation to pay it off.
The Bar Association donated $1,500 to the Houston County Nutrition Program to pay off all the debt of more than 200 students across 19 schools.
“When we learned of the school lunch debt problem in Houston County, we knew it was an opportunity to serve the youth in our community,” said LaToya Bell, president of the Houston County Bar Association. “This year parents were hit hard by the pandemic and some lost jobs even before the school year ended so abruptly, but we want our community to know that we are in this together.”
Many school districts will have outstanding lunch debt from students who aren’t able to buy lunches for themselves and if that debt isn’t paid before the start of the next school year then the student won’t be able to get hot lunches but instead be given a sandwich.
