The ability of Hong Kong courts to rule on Hong Kong laws has been questioned by Beijing. This comes a day after the Hong Kong High Court ruled the face mask ban was incompatible with the Basic Law. Beijing has slammed the ruling, saying it “openly challenges” the authority of the Chinese government, as well as the governance of Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam.
