Taxi driver Yu Hin-lam, 26, accused of helping four anti-government protesters try to flee city between 2020 and 2022
Hong Kong national security police have charged a 26-year-old taxi driver with perverting the course of justice in a case involving anti-government protesters.
The force’s National Security Department said on Friday night the suspect was arrested on Thursday over “doing an act or a series of acts tending and intended to pervert the course of public justice”.
The case was mentioned at Eastern Court on Saturday morning.
According to a court document, defendant Yu Hin-lam was accused of helping four protesters try to flee the city between October 2020 and July 13, 2022.
One of the four was Tsang Chi-kin, who was shot by a police officer on October 1, 2019, and subsequently jailed for nearly four years in 2023 for rioting and other offences.
The other three protesters – Fung Ching-wah, Ansen Wong and Alex Wong Chun-yin – were also convicted for various offences, according to media reports.
All four tried to flee Hong Kong, but failed.
