Due to continued growth in the region, our client is looking for an experienced Legal professional with a strong insurance background to lead their legal function. Reporting to the Country CEO and Asia General Counsel this role will lead an experienced team to provide professional, pro-active, business focused legal advice and legal risk management support to senior management for legal activities in Hong Kong and Singapore.
Principal responsibilities –
- Coach, develop and manage a team of Regional Legal Counsel;
- Provide advice to senior management on legal and regulatory risks associated with transactions and sales activities;
- Provide leadership in the development of best practice for commercial transactions, including negotiation strategy, risk management, precedents, templates and know-how;
- Anticipate legal developments relevant to the business, and provide advice on their impact;
- Ensure identification, mitigation and management of commercial, contractual and legal risk for bids, contract negotiations, contracts, product and proposition management;
- Propose strategy to resolve disputes at reasonable cost, safeguarding reputation and without setting adverse precedent;
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders such as industry, regulatory and accreditation bodies and third parties in ensuring compliance with regulations and policies at all levels.
Required Qualifications –
- University law degree and admitted to practice as a lawyer, preferably in a common law jurisdiction (e.g. Hong Kong, Australia, England, Singapore, US or Canada);
- Minimum of 15 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally including both international law firm and in-house experience with an international financial services organization;
- Ability to analyze complex legal problems, new business propositions and develop suitable solutions;
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (oral and written) and confident presentation skills.
