The Hong Kong Polytechnic University – School of Accounting and Finance
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is the largest government-funded tertiary institution in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in terms of student number. The School of Accounting and Finance has enjoyed a long history in providing high quality education in the HKSAR. Currently it has over 100 full-time academic staff in the areas of accounting, finance, economics and law. The School adopts an integrated approach to the teaching of accounting/finance with emphasis on the legal and economic dimensions of business. The School has adequate resources to support a variety of research interests and activities. At present, a major focus of the School’s research and outreach activities is on corporate governance. The School of Accounting and Finance is now inviting applications for several positions at the levels of Associate Professor/Assistant Professor/Lecturer in the area of Law. Individuals specialising in the following areas are encouraged to apply: common law, commercial law, corporate law and/or securities or business law. Knowledge of and interest in corporate governance, corporate social responsibility or competition law would also be valuable. The Lecturer position is a transient post and the appointee is expected to reach the standard required for appointment as Assistant Professor within the initial contract period. The positions are tenable from the 2010/11 academic year.
Duties
The appointees will be required to:
(a) teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses (some evening teaching is expected);
(b) conduct research that leads to publications in top-tier refereed journals; and
(c) contribute to departmental activities and management.
An appointee at Associate Professor level is required to provide leadership in research, programme/curriculum development, etc. and supervise graduate student theses/dissertations.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a PhD degree or a Masters degree in Law (a relevant first degree and admission to the Bar or equivalent as a solicitor will be considered for appointment of Lecturer);
(b) a publication record or strong potential to publish in high quality refereed journals; and
(c) excellent communication skills (the medium of instruction is English).
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
Salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial appointments will be made on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Remuneration package will be highly competitive. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
