HK Legal Recruiter writes…. There has been a big increase lately in the number of temporary or part time legal jobs available.
In the past, the easiest way to move from a full-time role to a part-time role was with your current employer. ?The most common examples of this type of move are women coming back from maternity leave and wanting to adjust their work life balance. ?Likewise temporary or contract legal roles were often driven by companies needing to arrange maternity cover for senior counsel. ?The other obvious example would be banks taking lawyers on secondment during busy periods. ?
Now, however, employers are starting to look strategically at flexible working arrangements rather than simply using contract staff to solve short term problems. ?Legal departments are under increasing pressure to save money and rather than calling in external counsel, are more willing to look at short term hires or even consider outsourcing routine legal work. ?This demand is creating a pool of candidates who are specifically looking for fixed or part-time assignments. ?
It would be great to hear your views on flexible working arrangements and whether you think this phenomenon will affect the legal industry in HK.
