The Temple University Law Library is currently seeking applications for the position of Head of Technical Services Librarian. The successful candidate will work to provide user-centered services and systems that enhance the discovery and utility of the Law Library collection in all formats.

The Head of Technical Services Librarian reports to the Director of the Law Library, assisting in budget planning and monitoring the Law Library’s technical services areas. Duties include planning, developing, and coordinating the technical services functions of the Law Library; creating innovative and new workflows; setting written policies in these areas; and supporting professional development opportunities for colleagues. This position manages and participates in the acquisition, cataloging, processing, and maintenance of the Law Library’s tangible, digital, special, and federal depository collections.

This position also collaborates with the Head of Public Services in collection management and budget planning and contributes to the Law Library’s public services activities. This includes staffing the library service desk, participating in the evening and weekend desk rotation, supporting faculty research, and providing formal and informal instruction in legal research. Performs other duties as assigned.

The Temple Law Library staff is an experienced staff dedicated to a high level of service to the Law School, the University, the Philadelphia legal community, and the public. The Law Library supports the learning and research activities of nearly 700 J.D. and LL.M. students and 60 full-time faculty members. Required Education & Experience:
M.L.S. in Library & Information Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution.
Demonstrated experience creating new workflows and setting new written policies, and the ability to review and draft effective service policies.
Demonstrated experience with collection management and collection maintenance.
At least four years of experience working in technical services including knowledge of current cataloging principles and procedures.
Supervisory, management, or leadership experience, either formal or informal.

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, research, teaching, communication, and library technology systems (e.g., Ex Libris Alma, Google Apps for Education, LibGuides).
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with and provide services to faculty, students, staff, and a diverse research community.
Ability to work nights and/or weekends, as scheduled.
Strong teaching skills.
An ability to work both independently and as a team member.

Preferred:
J.D. from an ABA-accredited institution.
Experience creating metadata.
Experience working in an academic law library or similar environment.
A thorough grounding in United States legal resources and research methods.
