As if Meghan Markle and Prince Harry weren’t busy enough, fans think a range of royal products could be coming soon after the couple trademarked their brand, ‘Sussex Royal’.
The application to trademark Sussex Royal was published on the intellectual property office website just before christmas, and Harry and Meghan have submitted applications for a number of items and services including clothing, which covers sportswear, dresses, headbands and jackets, and ‘printed matters’, which includes newspapers and magazines.
The move by the couple, who are currently on holiday in Canada, has prompted speculation from royal fans that merchandise, and even a magazine, could be on the way.
However, the applications don’t necessarily mean the trademarks will be used, but it does allow the couple to take legal action if anyone else uses their name in unapproved products and services.
The application was submitted on 21 June this year but was published just last week. It comes after Prince Harry announced that he’s suing Associated Newspapers, the publisher of Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday in the UK, over their publishing of a private letter from Meghan Markle.
In a statement, the Duke of Sussex said he and Meghan were forced to take action against “relentless propaganda”, with Law firm Schillings, acting for the duchess, accusing the newspaper publishers of the misuse of private information, infringement of copyright, and breach of the Data Protection Act 2018.
