GetUp! Australia – A 30 year fight for Black lives in Australia

It’s been more than 30 years since Black activists carried coffins bearing the names and images of 100 loved ones through the streets of major cities. They were demanding an inquiry, demanding answers and demanding an end to Black deaths in custody. Today marks 30 years since we got those answers. And in those 30 years, more than 474 Aboriginal people have died in custody. It’s damning evidence that racism not only survives in our custodial system, but thrives in our parliaments too. First Nations families continue to fight and demand the attention of the media, demand the accountability of governments and demand the convictions of perpetrators for these deaths and all the injustice.
