With legal slot machines coming to Pennsylvania, Philadelphia firms are scrambling to get a piece of the pie. And 15-attorney Kleinbard Bell & Brecker reached all the way to Denver, Colo., to get a lawyer who is one of that state’s foremost experts in gaming regulatory law.

John J. Tipton, who headed Colorado’s department of revenue when it legalized casino gaming and wrote regulations for the industry in the early 1990s, will join Kleinbard Bell, taking of counsel status. He plans to split his time between his home base in Denver and Philadelphia.
Tipton is currently serving as of counsel in the Denver office of Cleveland’s Baker & Hostetler and also operates his own solo law practice. Tipton said it is most likely that he will step down from Baker & Hostetler in the near future.
Tipton said this unlikely union emanates from Kleinbard Bell representing a Swiss gaming company for which he served as president for most of the past decade. Kleinbard Bell handled any Pennsylvania work the company needed done since 1993.
