Following his election at the Plenary Session of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) on 21 November 2024, Thierry Wickers officially assumed the position of CCBE President on 1 January 2025.
Thierry Wickers has been a practising lawyer since 1978. From 1990 to 1998, he was a member, and later Secretary, of the Bordeaux Bar Council. Between 2000 and 2001, he served as President of the Bordeaux Court of Appeal Bar Council. He subsequently also chaired the Conférence des Bâtonniers from 2004 to 2005 and the Conseil National des Barreaux (CNB) from 2009 to 2011.Furthermore, Thierry Wickers is one of three authors of Rules of the profession of lawyer (Règles de la profession d’avocat, éditions Dalloz), which is widely regarded in France as the reference book on the organisation and administration, as well as deontology of the profession of lawyer.
His collaboration with the CCBE began in 2012 as a member of the French delegation, becoming head of delegation two years later. Between 2016 and 2022, he chaired the CCBE Committee on the Future of the Legal Profession and Legal Services. He additionally contributed as an expert in various other committees and working groups, including the Brexit Task Force, the CCBE Statutes Review Working Group, and the Quality Sub-group.
His presidency will be supported by Roman Završek (Slovenia) as first Vice-President, Alex Tallon (Belgium) as second Vice-President, and Imbi Jürgen (Estonia) as third Vice-President.
