Former Rutgers Student Arrested After Sending Threatening Email & Video Law Students & Faculty

Police arrested a former Rutgers University student Thursday morning, the day after he sent an email and video to law students and staff members, threatening to kill people, authorities said.

Patrick Brian Kelly, 28, of Harrison, was arrested by Rutgers University police over the email and video at Rutgers Law School in Newark that mentioned “mass violence in schools,” “extreme group stalking” and mental health, according to an email obtained by NorthJersey.com.

The email also included a link to a video — which was over an hour long — where a man who identifies himself as Patrick Kelly speaks of alleged group stalking and school shootings.

“If I actually was a crazy person and I got access to somebody else’s gun, at least 50 people would have died,” Kelly said in the video.

Kelly sent the email to about 200 students and staff members, according to the affidavit of probable cause. The law school was evacuated in response to the email.
