Government lawyer admits to selling class A drugs but avoids jail
Nick Gouliaditis, a former Australian Government lawyer, has pleaded guilty in a Sydney court to supplying class A drugs and possessing a taser. However the court has delayed its decision as to whether Gouliaditis should go to jail depending on his behaviour over the next 10 months.
At the time of his arrest, Gouliaditis worked as a lawyer for the agency that provides legal advice to the government. He told the court that he had been taking drugs to boost his mood following a relationship break-up. And he turned to dealing since he was in debt and wanted to make additional money to support his habit. He was arrested after trying to peddle the drug ice to undercover officers.
In court, the presiding judge said that Gouliaditis has been in rehabilitation since his arrest in 2014 and was “a different man today than he was when he was supplying drugs”. The judge postponed sentencing and gave Gouliaditis a further ten months on the naughty step of rehabilitation, adding that he could avoid jail if he can prove to the court that he is completely clean. Gouliaditis will be sentenced on 30 July next year.
