Foreign and International Law Reference Librarian Duke Law School, Goodson Law Library

The Goodson Law Library invites applications for the position of Foreign and International Law Reference Librarian to join our team of skilled and creative professionals who provide extensive reference and research services in a technologically advanced environment serving a sophisticated and research-oriented faculty and student body.

 Primary areas of responsibility include in-depth research support to faculty engaged in foreign, comparative, and international areas; development of collections for foreign and international law; instruction in an advanced research course in foreign, comparative and international law research methods to JD/LLM students, and in the 1L legal research and writing course; liaison services to programs, journals, clinics, and moot court teams engaged in foreign, comparative and international areas; legal research assistance to Law School students and staff and the Duke community.  Reference librarians are encouraged and supported in seeking opportunities for professional growth and educational involvement.

 Salary and Benefits: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Duke University offers a very competitive benefits package.  All Duke librarians are eligible for continuing appointment and promotion under Duke University’s ranking system for professional librarians.  Reference Librarians are non-tenure track members of the Law School faculty at the rank of Lecturing Fellow.

Educational Requirements:

MLS and JD degrees from accredited institutions, or non-U.S. equivalents

Required Qualifications & Experience:

-Commitment to developing expertise in foreign, comparative and international research knowledge and methods
– Experience or strong aptitude in teaching, training, instructional design
-Ability to work creatively with an active research and interdisciplinary faculty
– Substantial knowledge and proficiency with a wide range of legal information and research methods
– Knowledge and interest in current and developing technologies and their application in the law school environment
-Strong service orientation and demonstrated oral and written communication skills
-Problem solving, analytical, organizational and project management skills
-Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
-Ability to take initiative, as well as work collaboratively in an environment with high performance expectations

 Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

Reference experience in an academic law library
Teaching experience
Knowledge of foreign and international legal systems and resources
Experience in providing research services in FCIL subject areas
Working knowledge of German and French, ability to work in foreign language legal sources
