The lawyers for Gregory Moore, the former lawyer accused of killing Aliza Sherman, filed a motion for bond Tuesday saying Moore was arrested at his dying father’s bedside.
“When law enforcement arrested Moore, he was arrested at his father’s bedside, where he had been for the past three hours,” the filing said.
Moore, 51, is accused of the kidnap and murder of his client, Aliza Sherman, on March 24, 2013.
Sherman had an appointment with Moore in downtown Cleveland when she was stabbed more than 10 times.
On May 2, a grand jury secretly indicted Moore and U.S. Marshals arrested him in Austin, Texas.
“Moore and his wife of twenty years, Melissa Moore, had flown down to Texas on Friday, May 2, 2025 for the imminent passing of Moore’s father, who was in end-of-life care,” said “Their return flights were booked for Monday, May 5, 2025 through Frontier Airlines.”
The motion for bond questions the arrest of Moore and said Moore is not a flight risk.
“Moore has lived his entire life in the State of Ohio,” the motion said. “He purchased his current residence with his wife in 2006, and has maintained that residence ever since.”
The filing also says Moore maintains his innocence in Sherman’s murder.
“Despite the nature of the allegations, it is imperative to remember that Moore stands before this court cloaked in the presumption of innocence,” the filing stated. “The facts, as presented today, are merely allegations, and he steadfastly maintains his innocence.”
The request for bond comes ahead of Moore’s arraignment Wednesday morning.
The judge could address Moore’s request for bond at the arraignment.
Moore is charged with six counts of murder, two counts of kidnapping, conspiracy, and aggravated murder.
“Moore understands the gravity of the charges and is prepared to vigorously defend against them in a court of law,” the filing said. “To deny bond would be to overlook the core factors of stability weighing in favor of a reasonable bond – namely, enduring marriage, a lifelong presence in the area, a strong educational background and a history of employment.”
Moore is currently in the Cuyahoga County Jail with no bond as he awaits his arraignment.
Moore was brought back to Ohio last week by Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s deputies.
