DERBY — A former Seymour police officer accused of embezzling more than $30,000 from the police union to finance a gambling habit faced a judge for the first time Monday.
Justin Quilty, 35, who faces a single charge of first-degree larceny in the case, appeared briefly in state Superior Court before Judge Stephanie A. Damiani alongside his attorney, Jeffrey L. Ment.
Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Rebecca Barry said she would provide Ment with discovery in the case and requested the matter be continued.
The judge then ordered Quilty to return to court with his lawyer June 12.
Quilty, who had joined the force in August 2022 and became president of the police union in March 2024, resigned following his arrest this month.
