The Electronic Resources and Technology Librarian provides leadership for the library’s electronic resources and technology operations. This position oversees the library’s electronic subscriptions and serves as the library’s liaison to the Vermont Law School Information Technology department. The Electronic Resources and Technology Librarian is responsible for monitoring, evaluating, recommending, and implementing emerging library technologies in a team-oriented environment. This position manages the library’s archives collections while also participating in the library’s reference and faculty liaison program. Additionally, the Electronic Resources and Technology Librarian conducts instructional sessions and works on library events along with other library promotional activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees the library’s database subscriptions including managing the lifecycle of database subscriptions from trials to ordering to payments to cancellations; creating and maintaining data on the library’s Innovative Interfaces Electronic Resource Management (ERM) module; loading monthly data from the Serials Solutions Knowledgebase to the ERM module; providing web access to databases, and generating and monitoring usage statistics for electronic products.
Collaborates with the library’s Collections Management department on individual electronic title implementation processes.
Ensures IP-authenticated resources are accessible off-campus. Manages and distributes database credentials to the VLS community and coordinates database vendor activities such as, but not limited to, vendor training on campus.
Works with the ILS Systems Administrator to maintain the display of electronic resources data in the library catalog.
Monitors, evaluates, recommends, and implements emerging library technologies and new electronic products outside of the core Innovative Interfaces Integrated Library System.
Serves as the library’s liaison to the Vermont Law School Information Technology department.
Provides legal research guidance to law school faculty, staff, students, and the public including regular rotations for walk-in reference questions.
Develops and maintains research guides to assist users and facilitate library engagement.
Participates in the library’s marketing and maintains its social media presence.
Develops and implements promotional activities and events in conjunction with the Reference and Academic Outreach librarian.
Oversees the maintenance, development, and delivery of the library’s archives collection.
Manages the library’s LibGuides software.
Serves as backup for the management of the library website.
Participates in the faculty liaison program.
Creates and maintains documentation on workflows and procedures.
Participates in library cross-training activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Master’s in library science degree (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited library school required
Working knowledge of an integrated library system (experience with Innovative Interfaces Sierra preferred)
Working knowledge of an Electronic Resource Management system (experience with Innovative Interfaces ERM preferred)
Proven organizational, analytical, and independent problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively manage different types of work and simultaneous projects while maintaining a consistently high degree of accuracy.
Understanding of evolving technology landscape (especially as applied to libraries) and willingness to experiment and find ways to incorporate new technologies to enhance services and complete tasks more efficiently.
Ability to work well both collaboratively and independently on complex and/or long-term projects using informed judgment and clear communication strategies to successfully complete tasks.
Interest in and enthusiasm for promoting the library’s services and activities through social media, signage, and other outreach methods.
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge of special collections and archives practices is preferred.
Experience in library collections management and/or law libraries preferred.
Knowledge of scripting and/or markup languages preferred.
Understanding of higher education organizational structure and administrative operations preferred.
Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.
