Artificial Lawyer has the convo
Here is the intro
Earlier this month the Southern California Association of Law Libraries – 2025 SCALL Institute held an ‘AI Smackdown’ – comparing vLex, Westlaw, and LexisNexis solutions.
As Ed Walters, CSO at vLex, explained to Artificial Lawyer: ‘Three experienced law librarians ran three different exercises with Vincent AI from vLex, Lexis+ AI, and Westlaw AI. The panel was:
Mark Gediman, Alston Bird
Cindy Guyer, O’Melveny & Myers
Tanya Livshits, DLA Piper
‘
For the three exercises, all of the tools did pretty well, but their conclusion was that one of the three found deeper answers, had more targeted sources, more control, and more transparency (their conclusions, not mine) [See chart below]. Vincent performed very well in the evaluation.’
The questions were:
‘1. What is the time frame to seek certification of an interlocutory appeal from the district court in Ninth Circuit?
2. Is there a private right of action under the California Reproductive Leave Loss for Employees Act?
3. What is the standard for appealing class certification? (California).’
And the Evaluation Factors covered:
- accuracy of answer
- depth of answer
- cited primary sources
- secondary sources cited
- format of answer
- iterative options’
