Jun 18, 2022 Dr. Xu Zhiyong is one of China’s leading human rights lawyers, and a prominent political writer/thinker. This documentary, POLITICIAN, represents his work of promoting the citizens’ movement, especially the movement for equal educational rights. Xu had been detained for 4 years (2013-2017) for his promotion of human rights and democracy in China. After being released in 2017, he continued his activism and was arrested again in February 2020 and accused of “subverting state power”. Chen Jiaping, a director, filmmaker and poet, had been detained in 2020 for making this documentary.
