Dissertation Writer Looking For Barristers To Speak About Their “Information Literacy”

Dear all,

I am currently studying Library and Information Science MA at UCL and for my dissertation I am exploring new barristers’ information literacy.

As part of my dissertation, I am interested in finding out how new barristers use and develop their legal research skills as they make the transition from the BPTC to the workplace. While legal IL is normally studied from the law librarians’ perspective and studies often focus on IL training specifically, in my study, I want to explore barristers’ own perspectives on the challenges and opportunities that they face related to doing legal research as they start work.

I am currently looking to identify new barristers who I can interview about their views and experiences of legal research. Participants would be asked to take part in one 30-45 minute interview at a location and time that is convenient to them. I am looking to interview people currently doing their pupillage or new (within their first/first two years) of being fully-qualified barristers.

If you know of any potential participants, I would be grateful if you could forward this email to them, or put us in touch. Perhaps someone working at a Chamber or at an Inn has a suitable library mailing list, through which my request could be shared too.

I am happy for any comments, advice or pointers and of course, please be in touch if you have any questions.

I really appreciate your time and your help!

Kind regards,

Anne Binsfeld
