The Pennsylvania State University-Dickinson Law seeks an innovative law librarian to serve as the Director of the Law Library. Dickinson Law is one of Penn State’s two fully accredited law schools and is located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The Law Library plays a central role in the teaching, scholarly, and service missions of both the Law School and the larger University. Building on the Law Library’s extraordinary strengths, the Director fosters a collaborative culture in support of the academic and scholarly goals of the law school community.

Core Responsibilities:
Oversee all Law Library operations including the Access Services and Technical Services departments.
Engage in collection assessment and development to support the curricular and scholarly needs of the law school community.
Manage policies, decision-making, and procedures to sustain a robust and relevant Law Library collection.
Oversee Law Library website and social media presence to amplify Law Library resources.
Develop and teach legal research courses and library-based programs to prepare students for practice. Create materials, guides, and tutorials to enhance research mastery.
Provide reference services to the Law School and affiliated communities.
Participate in activities related to faculty governance, scholarly research, and professional service.

Position Requirements:
This position will be filled as an assistant librarian or an associate librarian commensurate to the successful candidate’s title, rank, experience and qualifications. Typical requirements of the assistant librarian are as follows:

A Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and a Master of Library or Information Science (or other appropriate degree) from an ALA-accredited program.
Must have demonstrated potential ability as a librarian.
Five years of progressively responsible management experience as well as substantial experience teaching legal research.
The successful candidate will possess a strong service orientation, the ability to work well with students and faculty, and a willingness to work creatively and proactively with minimal direct supervision.
The successful candidate will have shown promise of growth in legal research, organizational, teaching, communications, and technology skills.
Demonstrated commitment to improving legal education and librarianship through teaching, scholarship, and professional service.
The successful candidate will possess a strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The associate librarian should possess the same qualifications as the assistant librarian, demonstrate excellence in librarianship, show evidence of an established reputation in research, and have a strong record of service to the University and the profession. The Director of the Law Library will report to the Associate Dean for Library and Information Services. This is a tenure-track appointment.
