The Sandra Day O’Connor of Law at ASU seeks a Director, College of Law, Law and Technology Librarian. The Director, COL, Law and Technology Librarian serves as a leader for the College of Law on emerging and existing legal research technologies. The Director also serves as a member of a dynamic reference team that provides research support and reference services to the faculty and students at the College of Law and participates in the library’s instructional services. The Director manages the library’s video projects and the library’s legal research databases, including troubleshooting, testing new technology, and training. This position reports to the Associate Director of the law library.

Essential Duties

  • Manage the library’s video projects.
  • Explore new technologies related to legal research, legal education, and legal practice and share your knowledge with library staff, students, and faculty.
  • Train Law College students, faculty, staff, and librarians on the library’s online resources.
  • Arrange trials and set up access for new online resources.
  • Serve as a resource for the library director for issues relating to licenses for legal research databases.
  • Serve as library contact for Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, and other online research providers with respect to passwords, training, and promotional materials.
  • Work with vendors and other relevant parties to resolve access and other issues with the library’s online legal research products.
  • Provide reference services to assist library patrons in-person, via the telephone, and through email.
  • Provide in-person research instruction, orientations, and library tours to College of Law students.
  • Meet one-on-one with law students to provide instruction on legal research.
  • Work on research projects for College of Law faculty and administration.
  • Physical presence at the workplace or the college is an essential function or requirement of this job.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctorate.

Desired Qualifications

  • Interest in pursuing a Master of Library Science (M.L.S.), Master of Library Information Science (M.L.I.S.) or equivalent Library Degree from an ALA-accredited institution preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in and experience with exploring emerging legal research technologies, such as generative AI
  • Experience with video editing
  • Experience providing reference services in a law library
  • Experience working in an academic law library
  • Demonstrated legal research experience
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse. Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. Use standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor and mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology.
