Reuters is seeking an experienced and talented journalist to join us as a Deputy Editor on our Breaking News Team in the United States and Canada.
The Breaking News Team is in charge of producing fast and sharp coverage of major news stories in the United States and Canada for Reuters’ global audience of decision makers in business, media and politics. The team monitors and reports on a wide range of live events and feeds, including federal and state governments, news conferences, TV broadcasts, Twitter and other social media.
About the Role
As Deputy Editor you will:
- Focus on the speed part of the operation, ensuring that we are extremely fast at publishing market-sensitive and other important news alerts
- Take charge of coverage plans for major events
- Lead by example when news is breaking
- Train other reporters on speed
- Track the team’s performance on timings
- Lead efforts to ensure we have the right tools and software in place to be the fastest in the business
- Work closely with other editors and multimedia reporting teams in Washington, New York and bureaus across the United States and Canada
About You
You will likely have:
- A deep understanding of politics, government policy, the economy and society
- An ability to work under pressure
- Strong writing and organizational skills
- A proven record of covering breaking news in a fast-paced environment
- At least 5-years of experience as a journalist
