The Department of Justice announced yesterday (14th) the inaugural release of the “Roster of Hong Kong Legal Professional Service Providers Supporting Going Global”, covering more than 70 Hong Kong legal service units. The initiative aims to assist Mainland enterprises in matching their specific overseas expansion needs with Hong Kong legal professional services, promoting Hong Kong as the preferred platform for enterprises going global.
The Roster includes international arbitration institutions, barristers in private practice, and 60 local, international and registered foreign law firms of various sizes. All service providers listed possess proven experience in professional areas related to overseas expansion.
To facilitate matching for Mainland enterprises, the Roster categorizes legal service providers into 12 areas of expertise, including corporate structure and strategic governance; compliance and regulation; capital markets; banking and finance; taxation; intellectual property; data protection and cybersecurity; asset management and wealth succession; employment and cross-border human resources matters; dispute resolution; real estate, infrastructure and energy; and industry-specific legal services. Service providers on the Roster are also invited to submit information to the cross-sector professional services platform established by the Hong Kong Trade Development Councils dedicated going-global task force, enabling enterprises to access relevant information and conduct business matching through the website.
Deputy Secretary for Justice Cheung Kwok-kwan stated that the National 15th Five-Year Plan Outline clearly supports Hong Kong in leveraging its strengths in professional services to assist enterprises in “going global”. The release of the Roster in the inaugural year of the 15th Five-Year Plan serves as a concrete response, capitalizing on Hong Kongs advantages as an international legal to support Mainland enterprises in enhancing risk management, strengthening international competitiveness, and achieving steady and sustainable development in overseas markets.
