Purpose of role
  • To work on the Enquiry Desk to offer research services and support for fee earners and business services teams in all UK, Ireland and Middle East offices.
  • To train and support library users, in legal and other research skills.
  • To perform administrative duties, alongside other members of the Library team, to keep the information resources up to date and ready for use.
  • Producing current awareness for library users.
    • Selecting and presenting materials for the compilation of the Library’s Daily Bulletin current awareness service;
    • Emailing the contents of electronic journals;
    • Press alerts using LexisNexis NewsDesk;
    • Other current awareness as required.
  • Managing journal subscriptions.
    • Hardcopy and online journals, managing renewals and access, negotiating prices where needed.
  • Training library users.
    • Preparing and delivering interactive training for new trainees (in small and large groups, remotely or face to face) using a variety of learning methods;
    • Preparing and delivering interactive training for new Solicitor Apprentices;
    • Delivering library inductions for new fee-earners and business services staff;
    • Preparing and delivering training for other library users as and when required;
    • Updating research guidance, held on Prezi.
  • Updating library portal pages, using SharePoint, as needed.
  • Cataloguing library materials.
  • Project work as needed.
  • To perform other duties as and when necessary due to holiday or sickness of other members of the team.
Required experience, skills and attributes
  • 4+ years’ experience of enquiry/research work in a law firm;
  • Excellent working knowledge of main legal and commercial research databases;
  • Comfortable with technology and able to help others;
  • Library/information graduate level qualification;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Able to interact positively and advocate for the library within the firm at all levels;
  • Excellent team player and able to work well under pressure;
  • Methodical approach to work, with strong attention to detail;
  • Good organisational skills;
  • Professional and enthusiastic attitude.
