Dechert Research Analyst London, England

The Research Analyst will work as part of a global distributed team responsible for providing research services across all Dechert offices, but focusing on support for EMEA offices.

 

Job Description

Research:

  • Conduct efficient and cost-effective research and reference support to lawyers and legal assistants in London and EMEA offices using the most appropriate online and print sources.
  • Instruct patrons in use of materials in the Research Services collections, including online databases.
  • In conjunction with Research Services Manager, EMEA, the Manager of Research and Competitive Intelligence and the Manager of Training and Outreach services organize online database training for lawyers and legal assistants.
  • In conjunction with the Research Services Manager, EMEA, the Manager or Research and Competitive Intelligence and the Manager of Training and Outreach Services develop research guides and pathfinders to subject collections.
  • Meet with lawyers regarding anticipated research needs and products.
  • Produce current awareness newsletters and alerts and monitor legislative developments for lawyers.
  • Research topics for lawyers writing articles and delivering presentations.
  • Assist the RS Technical Services and Collection Analyst in obtaining documents and books from outside agencies, courts, document retrieval services and other libraries.

Administrative:

  • Track and record billable and non-billable time spent providing research services to Research Services clients on a daily basis and promptly process requests through the Quest enquiry management system.
  • Implement Research Services policies created by the Research Services Leadership Team.
  • Assist with conducting local inductions and orientation training in co-ordination with the Manager of Training and Outreach Services and the Research Services Training Specialist.
  • Promote the Research Services department to legal and administrative staff across the firm.
  • Actively pursue continuing education opportunities and read professional literature to ensure that our research services remain cutting-edge, relevant and cost-effective.
  • Participate in professional conferences when scheduling permits.
  • Occasional travel to other Dechert offices may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Collection Development:

  • Work with the Director of Research Services, Research Services Manager, EMEA, the Manager of Technical Services and the RS Technical Services and Collection Analyst to review the collection for acquisition/deselecting/weeding of materials and plan for space issues and help with collection moves.
  • Participate in trials of new services and provide feedback and recommendations as appropriate.

Acquisition and Budgeting:

  • Assist in the annual budgeting process as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Well-developed understanding of and experience in a law firm role providing research and company information to be used in legal and business development activities.
  • Ability to multi-task, judge priorities, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to build effective internal and external client relationships.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree, or equivalent, in Library and Information Science.
  • Two to five years’ experience in a research-focused role in a law firm required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a deep knowledge of the legal materials and databases used to support the firm’s practice areas as well as its business development activities.
