Here’s what they say
Suresh Divyanathan has launched Dauntless Law Chambers with five other members from Oon & Bazul, driven by a core belief that law is fundamentally a people-centric business.
In an interview with Asia Business Law Journal, Divyanathan, the firm’s managing director, explained the motivation behind establishing Dauntless Law Chambers.
“I decided that I wanted to build a practice based on a fundamental concept and a few core values, which I believe are essential to good lawyering … Apart from understanding the law and appreciating the detailed facts of each case, we always strive to remember that our clients are people – people with feelings and motivations,” Divyanathan said.
Divyanathan was a long-term partner of Oon & Bazul for more than 13 years and was the head of its commercial arbitration practice. Joining him at Dauntless are directors Aaron Leong and Rachael Leong, who also worked at Oon & Bazul as partners.
The other members are senior associates Sarah Khan and Nicole Ng, and office manager Nicole Kessler, all of whom have also transitioned from Oon & Bazul. The new firm, launched on 1 January, focuses on international commercial arbitration, complex commercial litigation, fraud and asset recovery, and IP advisory and dispute resolution.
The firm’s culture also reflects Divyanathan’s commitment to collaboration and mentorship. “We will take the time to teach our juniors because we remember what it was like to have both good leaders and bad leaders in our past. We believe that when you care about your people, they will help you achieve the things you care about,” he said.
