The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has demanded from Russian authorities to answer the questions concerning the complaints submitted by the Krasnodar lawyer, Mikhail Benyash, about being beaten by law enforcers after detention and for arrest.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 6, 2023, a court sentenced Benyash to a fine, finding him guilty of attacking law enforcers. In the last word, Benyash refused to plead guilty.

On September 9, 2018, Benyash was detained in Krasnodar along with participants in an unsanctioned rally against the pension reform. According to investigators, Benyash used violence against policemen by biting the hand of one of them. Benyash himself reported that after his detention, he was beaten up.
