Position Summary:
In conjunction with a grant from the Vermont Department of Libraries, this 20 hours/week position organizes law library reference and information services for the public, including attorneys, alumni, state employees, self-represented litigants, and other Vermonters.

Essential Functions:
Provides customer service support to public patrons, visitors, and members of the law school community by assisting with general library and non-library questions and concerns.

Refers questions and concerns to appropriate departments within the library and law school.
Prepares anticipatory research guides, tutorials, and other technological tools to acquaint public patrons and self-represented litigants with available legal resources and referral services.
Markets available library services to the public.
Serves as a liaison to Vermont public librarians to provide guidance and access to research information.
Monitors, processes, and proposes grant expenditures.
Maintains communication with the Vermont Department of Libraries, aligning grant activities with Vermont Department of Libraries priorities.
Prepares reports and supporting documentation for the Vermont Department of Libraries as required by the grant.
Collects and responds to inmate requests for legal materials in compliance with VLS Library and Vermont Department of Corrections policies.
Maintains statistics on public patron questions, inmate requests, and other services.
Participates in library cross-training activities and maintains procedures documentation.
Stays abreast of best practices for library services to the public.
Other duties as assigned.

. Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Associate degree or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
Demonstrated experience in and commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Superior organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and respond to deadlines under pressure, and changes in priorities and schedules, while maintaining accuracy and details.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with visitors and members of the VLS community.
Strong problem-solving skills required. Ability to work in an environment of collaborative problem solving and decision-making.
Previous library experience preferred.
Familiarity with legal materials preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and ability to use video and other technology for virtual and remote customer work.
Strong information technology skills and willingness to learn new technologies.

Other Requirements:
90% Desk-oriented work, primarily computer oriented.
Repetitive motion (keyboard, mouse, etc)
Ability to bend, squat, kneel, and lift, and carry up to 25 pounds for limited distances.
Sufficient fluency in the English language to communicate with customers in writing and orally.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines and reorganize under pressure.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Ability to separate personal feelings and maintain a cool demeanor when dealing with difficult situations.
