The SMU DEDMAN SCHOOL OF LAW is seeking applications from qualified persons for a non-tenure track, full-time Clinical Professor of Legal Research, Writing and Advocacy position (PN# 00052163) in the International LL.M. Program to begin Fall 2021. The appointment is initially for one-year, with reappointment planned after a successful first year. The position requires teaching five courses during the academic year. Two courses will be taught in the fall: three-credit Legal Research and Writing for LL.M.s and two-credit Perspectives of the American Legal System, a class limited to and required of all international LL.M. students. In the spring, the same two courses will be offered, plus an additional course for international LL.M.s will be developed in consultation with the Dean and faculty of the law school. This position will also provide mentoring to our international LL.M. students and may be asked to assist with recruitment of students for the programs by speaking to interested candidates.
Applicants must have a law degree; an excellent academic record; and excellent research, writing, legal analysis, and communication skills. Demonstrated cultural competency or experience working with individuals from a wide array of backgrounds is required. At least three years of legal practice is required, and previous teaching in a legal research and writing course or an LL.M. program is preferred. Hiring is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a background check.
