Clifford Chance Thinking Ahead ?

This looks quite a clever move from CC’s HR department.. well we think so anyway.

The Lawyer (UK) reports that the firm has taken the unprecedented step of hiring two lawyers from its Indian legal support centre as associates in the LLP.

The report goes on to say

One will join the Abu Dhabi capital markets team and the other the London banking team. Both will join at the equivalent level of a newly qualified lawyer.

The duo work in the firm?s Delhi Knowledge Centre, a wholly owned subsidiary of Clifford Chance that carries out quasi-paralegal work, including document review, contract drafting, research and due diligence.

We reckon what CC has done is doubly smart.

A) Having a knowledge centre in India that can act as a way of identifying great candidates that have gone through the Indian education system and feeding them into the global organisation. We presume they’ll be doing a lot more of this so when the magical point arrives and the Indian govt and bar association accept the inevitable. The internationalization of the country’s? legal industry; CC will have staff with a wealth of local and international experience and at the same time are already part of the CC culture.

B) These individuals will also have a greater understanding than most in the organisation about the future of LPO and the integration of these processes/practices in a global law firm having worked initially at the LPO / KPO coalface

Over time people with these skills are going to becopme increasingly important to the international law firms

We bet also that they are cheaper than a UK graduate !
