“We chose Wall Builder because of its broad adoption, its advanced architecture, and IntApp’s vision for integrated information risk management, both on the ground and in the cloud,” said Mark Boggis, Director of Enterprise Architecture, Clifford Chance LLP. “The granularity of control and embedded business process enable us to enforce strict compliance policies whilst meeting exacting client demands and supporting our ISO 27001 certification. We also appreciate the close collaboration between IntApp and Microsoft to align their product visions to best support our specific information risk management and compliance requirements.”
Wall Builder is a web-based confidentiality management application built on standard Microsoft technology. It enables organisations to centrally control, monitor and report on user access permissions across multiple applications including document management, accounting, portal, CRM, time entry and records management systems. It also automates notifications to individuals subject to specific information barriers and tracks acknowledgments for compliance and reporting purposes.
Law firms must closely manage and track internal access to client information for reasons including rules of professional responsibility regarding conflicts (SRA Rules 3 & 4), client mandates, and regulations such as the EU Market Abuse and Privacy Directives.
Wall Builder is the most-adopted information barriers software product by law firms with 150 or more lawyers. According to an independent survey by the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) of its membership, 74% of large firms using commercial software to enforce information barriers use IntApp Wall Builder. Today, law firms use Wall Builder to manage confidentiality controls for over 1.5 billion documents globally.
Clifford Chance are widely recognised for their technology leadership and embrace of cloud computing. As part of these efforts, the firm sought automated information barrier management software to replace a legacy tool which was custom built by external consultants. While functional, that application did not provide support for products other than Open Text DM5 and was not suited to enforce restrictions across SharePoint Server 2010 in a cloud environment, which is a key part of Clifford Chance’s technology strategy.
The firm uses Wall Builder to secure content in both its Open Text DM5 and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 document repositories whilst the replacement of Open Text DM5 is undertaken. Wall Builder also enables the firm’s risk and compliance personnel to directly manage information barriers through an intuitive, wizard-driven user interface. Clifford Chance are also using Wall Builder’s Matter Team Manager module, which provides lawyers and legal staff with delegated administrative rights so that they can manage access controls across their matters directly, while ensuring compliance with firm security standards.
Kohtaro Iga, a Senior Conflicts Analyst at Clifford Chance said, “We are very pleased with the implementation of Wall Builder. The product is easy to use, and provides significant advances both in terms of functionality and efficiency.”
“We are proud to welcome Clifford Chance to our expanding Wall Builder client community,” said Kaye Sycamore, UK Managing Director, IntApp. “We particularly appreciate the close working relationships and rapport our respective technology specialists have forged, which will serve both organisations well as we bring information governance to the cloud.”
