Legal Week has reported that Clifford Chance has bolstered its Singapore office with the hire of a capital markets partner from Wong Partnership.
They write:
Raymond Tong will be the first capital markets lawyer practising Singapore law in the office following the approval of the firm’s local licence last year.
CC previously had a joint venture with Wong Partnership that ended when the firm received its own licence in May 2009.
Tong (pictured) is set to join the magic circle firm in December and will be the second capital markets partner on the ground in Singapore.
CC Asia capital markets head Crawford Brickley said: “This is a coup for our Asia capital markets practice, and especially for our Southeast Asia team.
“With Raymond on board, we can now offer English, US and Singapore law advice for capital markets transactions in Singapore.”
Capital markets partner Joan Janssen, who will be working alongside Tong, said: “Following the approval of our license to practice Singapore law last year, we have been growing our local capability in each of our key practice areas and it is definitely our intention to grow further.”
Tong was at Wong Partnership for 10 years, prior to which he worked at David Lim & Partners and Shook Lin & Bok.
