CILIP’s Copyright Conference – Online 10 May 2021- Details

CILIP’s very popular and well-regarded Copyright Conference, in association with Naomi Korn Associates, takes place virtually on 10 May and there is an opportunity to buy discounted tickets until the end of the month.

The Annual CILIP Copyright Conference provides a unique and important chance for you to update your knowledge about crucial copyright and licensing related issues and developments. It also provides an invaluable forum for in-depth presentations by UK and EU-leading experts, informed debate and opportunities to ask questions.

The keynote speaker is Melissa Terras, Professor of Cultural Digital Heritage, University of Edinburgh who will be reflecting on how copyright has shaped her research projects – and also, how the perceived boundaries of copyright affect the research environment. Dr Emily Hudson, Reader in Law at Kings College, London will ask what the future of copyright might look like. She starts by explaining the current legal position in relation to the status of EU instruments and case law in the UK. Dr Hudson then identifies areas where EU harmonisation has been particularly significant, and makes some predictions about the likely direction of UK copyright law over the coming years.

Other speakers include David Prosser: Executive Director, RLUK, James Bennett: Head of Rights and Licensing, Copyright Licensing Agency, Ariadna Matas: Policy Advisor, Europeana Network Association. A session slot has been left open and we are inviting candidates to apply to fill this slot – we are particularly keen to receive applications from people with Black, Minority and Ethnic backgrounds. More information can be found on the event webpages.
