The International Library and Information Group of CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals cordially invites you to its “International Conference on Copyright: A dialogue between library and information professionals and the publishers”

CILIP, 7 Ridgmount Street, London, WC1E 7AE. 24th May 2012; 10.00-16.30

Overview:

This unique one-day conference will bring together representatives of  key national and international organisations from the library and  publishing sectors to provide their perspectives and engage  participants in discussion and debate against the background of the UK  copyright reforms proposed by the Hargreaves Report, the WIPO
discussions on exceptions for libraries and archives and European  developments concerning out-of-commerce works and the proposed orphan  works Directive.

Aimed at library and publishing professionals operating within all  fields, this symposium will provide a comprehensive view of the key copyright developments affecting the Library and Publishing Sectors. The conference objective is to broaden understanding and to open and  stimulate discussion between major stakeholders within the copyright context.

Key speakers include Stuart Hamilton (IFLA), Gerald Leitner (EBLIDA), Barbara Stratton (LACA) and Keith Webster (Wiley).

Learning Outcomes:

 

Improved understanding of copyright issues relevant to Library and  Information Professionals and the Publishing Sector, including:

Comprehensive understanding of what copyright is, including an awareness of relevant copyright legislation and treaties operating at an international and national level

Identification of the key organisations in relation to copyright and understanding of the roles that they play in developing legislation

Appreciation for the current copyright concerns within both the Library and Information and the Publishing Sectors

Recognition of the need for comprehensive copyright legislation relating to all aspects of electronic publishing

Awareness of the importance of collaborative working and clear communication between the Publishing Sector and the Library and Information Profession
