CILIP invites members and the wider information profession community to share examples of how content, reports, datasets, evidence, and tools are being removed by US authorities.
The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), is concerned that the removal, hiding, and modification of data, research and other information resources by authorities in the USA is already starting to impede the vital work of UK library and other information professionals, as well as researchers and educators.
As the USA is such a major global source of research and other data this risks a negative impact on citizens worldwide, including the UK.
CILIP is urging its members and the wider information profession community to share examples of content, datasets, evidence, and tools which have been affected to help us better understand the scale and impact in the UK.
Members of CILIP Special Interest Groups covering health and higher education have already identified removal/reduction of access and changes to content relating to their work in public health, research, education, and science.
This includes information that UK services rely on such as the National Institutes of Health. Examples of altered or removed data include that relating to protected characteristics such as race and gender.
Anyone working in the UK sector is encouraged to share examples in this short online form to inform how CILIP, its member networks, and relevant partners might respond.
