China’s lawyers association publicizes punishment on lawyers, law firms

This is a Xinhua report so it has a state spin on it.

The All China Lawyers Association on Friday made public nine cases in which lawyers and law firms were punished for violating industry regulations.

A total of eight lawyers and two law firms were punished for misconduct such as interfering with case handling, submitting false evidence and illicitly charging fees.

In one case, a lawyer in central China’s Henan Province who bribed a local court official was sentenced to two years in prison, deprived of his lawyer’s license and expelled from the provincial lawyers association.

The two law firms involved were punished for being neglectful of their internal problems.

Eight typical cases involving the protection of lawyers’ rights and interests were also publicized by the ACLA.
