China Law Writing (In Western Languages) Bibliography 2010 Update

Knut Benjamin Pissler Research associate? at Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law writes:

Once again the time has come for compiling data for my annual bibliography of academic writings on the field of Chinese law in western languages: I am currently doing research on academic articles/books/monographs/edited works etc. published in 2009 on Chinese law in western languages.

The attached document? (see below) is a preliminary draft of the bibliography, which will be published in the second issue of the German ?Journal of Chinese Law? (Zeitschrift fuer Chinesisches Recht, www.ZChinR.org <http://www.zchinr.org/> ) Vol. 17 (2010).

Last year again many of the Chinalaw-members reminded me of articles that I had overlooked and thereby making the bibliography more comprehensive. Of course, in this year I will have overlooked once more many writings on Chinese law in western languages. Thus, I would be very grateful for any suggestions regarding articles to be included, provided:

– they were published in a print-medium (simultaneous publication online is no problem, of course), and
– they were published last year (2009).

After finishing the bibliography, I will distribute it in Chinalaw.

Regarding the citation style in the bibliography, please refer to the attached document.

If you wish, you could also point me to articles already published in 2010: I will include those in the bibliography of literature to be published in 2011.

Bibliography of Academic Writings on the Field of Chinese Law in Western Languages in 2009 Knut Benjamin Pi?ler? (Preliminary Draft, dated March 15, 2010)

The bibliography of academic writings on the field of Chinese law in western languages was first published in the year 2003 in this journal (Zeitschrift f?r Chinesisches Recht/Journal of
Chinese Law). The bibliography aims to give readers an overview on articles in academic journals, contributions to edited volumes, monographs and textbooks published in English or
German on the field of Chinese law. Writings in French and Italian language could only partly be considered.

Regarding relevant German-language literature, the issues 1 to 12 of the journal ?Karlsruher Juristische Bibliographie? (KJB) of the year 2007 were screened for articles relating to
Chinese Law. Simultaneously the classification scheme of the KJB was used as a model in this bibliography as follows:

Inside this classification scheme the titles of the contributions are listed in alphabetic order of
the authors. Abbreviations are not utilized in order to facilitate the use of this bibliography by
international readers.
Concerning English-language literature I mainly focused on periodicals and books available at
the library of the Max-Planck-Institute for Comparative and International Private Law (MPI)
in Hamburg. The catalogue of the library of the MPI is available via the homepage of the
institute at www.mpipriv.de (OPAC). Besides I scrutinized fee-charging databases like
Westlaw, LexisNexis, Juris and Beck-Online for relevant articles.
I admit that this bibliography is not comprehensively including all literature in western
languages on Chinese law in the year 2010. Readers are explicitly encouraged to remind me
of pieces we left unnoticed.1 We will include these in the next bibliography to be published in
the second issue of this journal in the year 2011.
