CALS NEWSLETTER | Summer 2023

We hope you have been having a relaxing and wonderful summer! Here at the Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS), our advanced degree students have just completed the summer term and we’re ready to welcome new students for the 2023-24 Academic year.

As we look to the upcoming academic year, we’re also delighted to share with you our 2022-23 Academic Year in Review. It was a year of innovative advancements for animal law education, including the launch of our Animal Law MSL Program for non-lawyers (in-person and online) and the creation of the world’s first Animal Law SJD program. Every day our faculty, staff, and alumni (now from over 25 countries!) are taking bold action to change the world for animals.

We’re also excited to share with you below a summary of our summer courses, an introduction to our newest CALS Ambassadors, details about our upcoming 31st annual Animal Law Conference, and more. We couldn’t do it without the generous support of our donors, supporters and friends.

On behalf of all of us at CALS, thank you for being part of our journey.

For the animals,

Pamela D. Hart
Assistant Dean and Executive Director

Animal Law & Science of Animal Minds with Professor Pamela Frasch and Dr. Garet Lavis

Food Law with Professor Pamela Frasch and Hira Jaleel
This survey course provides an examination of contemporary food law and policy and introduces students to a number of issues and concepts.

The Law & Ethics of Animal Testing with Professor Paul Locke

CREATE A LEGACY FOR ANIMALS
August is national Make-a-Will Month. It’s an opportunity to invest in a future for animals through animal law education and advocacy. Legacy giving is about planning now to create a world we may personally never see, but one that we carefully build for the future. We would be honored if your estate plan included the Center for Animal Law Studies.

Through our Animal Law Legacy Program you can support our mission, help secure our future, and create a more compassionate world for animals.
