Busman’s Holiday in China

We’ll hold back on our cynicism about the free use and access of content in the PRC and just let you read this….

Are you interested in going to China this summer, learning about information technology and visiting some of China’s most

magnificent sites?

If you are interested, then the 2-week summer program from the information and library science school at Southern Connecticut

State University may be for you. The course is following up on previous study abroad programs and opening up enrollment to

graduates and students from other schools. Participants fly out of JFK airport on July 11 and return July 24. The trip cost is $3215,

which includes round trip air fare from JFK, bed and breakfast at the International dormitory of a Beijing university, some

additional meals and all tours, including the National Library, National Science Library, Peking University Library, as well as

library and information science schools in Beijing. Cultural tours provided to the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, the Summer

Palace, the Ming Tombs, and The Temple of Heaven.

In addition, if you are interested in taking an ALA-approved graduate school course, you may enroll as a special graduate or

undergraduate student at Southern Connecticut State University?s School of Information and Library Sciences. The course

number and title: ILS630/ILS499: Seminar of International & Comparative Librarianship. Not including the course, the trip and

tours are also open to high school graduates above age 18.

To reserve a spot, email Dr. Yan Q. Liu, [email protected]. For more information about trip and course, plus, videos from 2011, go to: http://home.southernct.edu/~liuy1/liu/general_information.html.

Payment Schedule: This program fee does not include tuition and medical care while abroad, laundry, snacks, personal items, recreational activities, souvenirs or any additional expenses that alter itinerary or arrangements. The cost of obtaining a valid passport, visa and textbooks are also participants’ responsibility. Dining is very reasonable in China; plan to spend about $15 to $25 per day on meals.

A non-refundable deposit $500 (check or payment to ?SCSU Program in China?) is due upon application. This guarantees your participation in the program and reserves your room. A second payment of $2000 is due on
May 25, 2012. The remainder of the balance is due no later than June 25, 2012.

Many thanks,
