Here’s the Introduction and like the document itself, it’s cringeworthy pointlessness.
The PM’s office says it offers “practical actions towards that goal that are in Australia’s national interest.”
The national interest actually means in the interests of the liberal party and the fossil fuel industry and by 2050 we can be assured that our children and grandchildren will be permanently living in something that looks like this…actually an “atomic suit” from Maralinga – so back to the future!
INTRODUCTION
Australia is setting a target to deliver net zero emissions by 2050. This plan outlines responsible and practical actions towards that goal that are in Australia’s national interest.
The global economy has been powered by fossil fuels since the beginning of the industrial revolution. As countries accelerate action on climate change, changes in global demand for our energy exports will present challenges for Australia.
The government’s long-term emissions reduction plan aims to set Australia on a credible pathway to net zero emissions by 2050, while preserving the nation’s existing industry strengths, establishing Australia as a leader in low emissions technologies, and supporting regional areas and communities.
The plan has been designed to align with the steps the Australian government is already taking to secure the nation’s future energy needs and supplies of fuel, gas and electricity.
We have to get to the end of the document to learn what we knew from the outset.
Eg it’s fine to dig up crap and send it overseas so others can be blamed for the carbon generation .
This short video explains the approach
What it’s not:
- It is not a plan at any cost.
- It will not shut down coal or gas production or exports.
- It will not impact households, businesses or the broader economy with new costs or taxes.
- It will not cost jobs – not in farming, mining or gas.
- It will not increase energy bills.
- It is not a revolution but a careful evolution to take advantage of changes in our markets.
- It is not set and forget and has an ‘insurance policy’ review mechanism to make sure it keeps delivering for regional Australia.
THE DOCUMENT
We give it out 3 of 3 in the steaming turd index
