Brazil: Luiz Felipe Santoro assumes presidency of newly created OAB-SP Gaming Commission

The newly created Special Committee on Gaming, Betting and Responsible Gaming Law of the Brazilian Bar Association – São Paulo already has its composition. Lawyer Luiz Felipe Santoro, from the firm Santoro, Herrera e Andries, assumed the presidency, with his deputy being the former deputy secretary of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA), Simone Vicentini, and the general secretary, Mariana Chamelette.

As in other units in Brazil and also nationally, the Brazilian Bar Association – São Paulo, created its Special Commission on Gaming, Betting and Responsible Gaming Law. The objective, like its counterparts, is to take the debate on the activity to the legal environment in order to contribute to the advancement of the sector in a transparent, safe, responsible and legal way.

The president of the Commission, Luiz Felipe Santoro, highlights that “this is a very current issue due to the regulation of fixed-odd betting (including sports betting), which is being diligently pursued by the Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance.”

He also points to the approval, by the Senate’s Constitution and Justice Committee, of Bill 2234/22, which legalizes casinos, bingos and jogo do bicho in Brazil, as another point that will receive the Commission’s attention.

“In addition to regulatory issues, the Commission’s important focus will be on responsible gambling and the prevention and combat of pathological gambling (gambling disorder), through debates and proposals for public policies on such extremely relevant aspects,” he emphasizes.

According to Santoro, the objective is to promote activities and disseminate knowledge about the Law of Gaming, Betting and Responsible Gaming with the legal profession, in conjunction with civil society and public authorities, in addition to permanent interaction with the Sports Law Commissions; Media, Entertainment and Culture; Privacy, Data Protection and Artificial Intelligence; Consumer Protection and all others that deal with related matters.

“Very honored to have been appointed president of the newly created Commission. I am immensely grateful to the president of OAB-SP, Patricia Vanzolini, and the vice-president, Leonardo Sica, for their trust.”

“I will have the privilege of being accompanied in carrying out the work by lawyers Simone Vicentini (vice-president) and Mariana Chamelette (general secretary),” he states.

He takes the opportunity to greet the other members of the Commission: José Francisco Manssur, Andréa U., Rafael Marchetti Marcondes, Ana Bárbara Costa Teixeira, Ana Clara Barros, Fábio Mariz de Oliveira, Fernando Vasconcelos, Victor Targino de Araujo, Andre Megale and Roberto de Palma Barracco.
