Head of Marketing – Law, Tax & Accounting

We are looking for a Head of Marketing who will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing effective marketing strategies, leading a small team promoting books and online resources.

You will oversee the Hart Publishing and Bloomsbury Professional imprints: market leaders in the academic and professional community across law, tax and accounting. You will also work closely with Sales, Editorial, and marketers and other managers across the Academic & Professional division.

The role reports to the Global Academic & Professional Marketing Director.

The role

Maximising revenue and profit, the Head of Marketing will:

  • Devise strategic direction for the Law, Tax and Accounting programmes
  • Oversee operational plans, spend and budget for Hart Publishing and Bloomsbury Professional
  • Manage and lead a UK-based team of 4 marketers, with dotted line management of 1 Ireland marketer, collectively responsible for:
    • Hart: book products globally
    • Bloomsbury Professional: book and digital resources globally
  • Enable the migration of Bloomsbury Professional customers from print to online, and drive trials and usage of resources on the Bloomsbury Professional Online platform
  • Find new avenues for promotion, build contacts and establish relationships with the practitioner and academic communities

Knowledge, skills and experience

ESSENTIAL

Strategy and Planning

  • Ability to create effective strategic marketing plans and turn company/departmental strategy into practical application
  • Managing a budget and maximising ROI through analytics

Management

  • Excellent project and time management of self and team, to meet deadlines and maximise quality and volume of outputs with the resources available
  • Leading a team, assigning roles and delegating effectively
  • Adept at change management

Market Knowledge

  • Demonstrable academic and/or practitioner product marketing experience
  • Experience of faculty marketing and knowledge of the scholarly market and/or practitioner-based, direct marketing
  • Marketing digital resources, platforms or journals

Marketing Expertise

  • Ability to build, segment and target customer data
  • Knowledge and implementation of the full promotional mix, including SEO/metadata, PPC ads, social media, content marketing as well as more traditional methods e.g. advertising, catalogues, direct marketing, conferences

DESIRABLE

  • Knowledge of the law, tax or similar markets

Additional information

The role is a full-time permanent position.

The role is based at our Oxford office, Kemp House, Chawley Park, Cumnor Hill, Oxford OX2 9PH on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). 

Allocated office days for this role are: Mondays and Thursdays.
